RTA’S CORRIDOR STUDY PHASE 1

The Phase 1 Study identified nine Travel Markets that fall into three Commute Categories:

     1. Traditional Commute – inbound to work in the morning and outbound to home in the late afternoon

     2. Reverse Commute – outbound to work in the morning and inbound to home in the late afternoon

    3. Intersuburban – from one suburb to another

The nine Travel Markets and the number of Daily Work Trips from the U.S. Census 2000 Journey-to-Work are:

    1. Traditional Commute – 426,000 daily work trips

    2. Reverse Commute – 246,000

    3. Central DuPage – 69,000

    4. South Central Cook – 26,000

    5. East Central DuPage – 113,000

    6. Far West DuPage – 113,000

    7. North DuPage – 52,000

    8. North Central Cook – 12,000

    9. West Central Cook – 48,000

The Traditional Commute and Reverse Commute are far and way the largest Travel Markets.
