Garfield is a substandard street with tight turning radiiGARFIELD IS A NARROW STREET

For most of their length in Oak Park, both Garfield and Harrison are narrow.  This photo shows Garfield looking west from Oak Park Avenue.  The pavement width is narrow.  The turning radius to and from Garfield is tight.

Residences and businesses look out on the Eisenhower Corridor and their occupants deal with air pollution, noise, and grime.  IDOT’s traditional criteria for roadways are: (1) safety, (2) capacity, and (3) cost.  While these three criteria are entirely appropriate, there are additional environmental and community criteria that IDOT should consider.  Context-Sensitive Design does consider these additional criteria.
