IDOT's PROPOSAL FOR HOV LANES

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) wants to construct two High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes between Mannheim Road and Austin Boulevard. IDOT also wants to move the center ramps at Austin Boulevard and Harlem Avenue to the right-hand side of the expressway.

From 1993 to 1998, IDOT did a feasibility study of HOV alternatives and concluded that HOV lanes are feasible.  IDOT then started a Phase 1 Engineering and Environmental Study for HOV lanes, but this study is now on hold pending the outcome of the Regional Transportation Authority’s Cook-DuPage Corridor Study, which will look at alternative solutions and then evaluate the alternative solutions to determine a “Preferred Alternative.”
